Abstract: Founded in 1979, the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is the pre-eminent force for promoting standards in student affairs, student services, and student development programs (www.cas.edu). During this webinar, Marybeth Drechsler Sharp, Executive Director of CAS, will give a detailed overview of their organization, the standards and guidelines they offer to campuses, as well as their partnership with Campus Labs. Additionally, Ashli Grabau from the University of Missouri, a Campus Labs member campus, will share her experience learning about the CAS resources and how they have successfully integrated them into their assessment practice. Guest Presenter:

Dr. Marybeth Drechsler Sharp is Executive Director at the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). She completed her doctorate in College Student Personnel at the University of Maryland (UMD), where she has served as an adjunct instructor. Prior to her arrival at CAS, Drechsler Sharp worked with student leadership development programs and service-learning initiatives for the College Park Scholars living-learning program at UMD. She also actively worked in the residence life departments at the University of Missouri and the University of Central Missouri. She has researched and presented on topics including learning outcomes, leadership self-efficacy, dimensions of identity development, student engagement in living-learning environments, and the motives and experiences of faculty members involved with living-learning programs.
 
Ashli Grabau is currently the University of Missouri’s Department of Student Life Coordinator for Assessment (2007 – present). In this position, she coordinates department-wide assessment initiatives, supports over 18 offices in developing and implementing annual assessment plans, facilitates department and office strategic plan development and program reviews, and chairs the Student Life Assessment Advisory Committee and Student Affairs Assessment Committee. Over the past five years she has gained experience in coordinating assessment efforts across various Student Affairs areas and has served as the lead facilitator for the division-wide learning outcomes assessment initiative. Prior to her current position, Grabau was the Assistant Director of Student Life at DePaul University where she was responsible for office assessment and served on the division assessment committee. She earned her Master’s degree (M.ED.) in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri (1999) and a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Psychology from the University of Missouri (1997).

There is a loud drumbeat for Campus Climate Surveys that focus on sexual assault. Yet, many campus practitioners are unsure where to turn for sound, wide-scale survey development, and implementation. This session will lead colleagues through the quagmire that is campus-based, sexual misconduct climate assessment. Speakers will engage participants in a discussion seminar and training focused on the technical and functional aspects of survey development and implementation. Speakers will also draw connections between sound assessment measures and exemplary examples of sexual misconduct adjudication. How survey data can help navigate a Department of Education Title IX Investigation and promising practices in sexual misconduct adjudication will be discussed. Guest Presenter: Jeanna Mastrodicasa is the Associate Vice President for Operations with UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Dr. Mastrodicasa earned an ABJ in public relations and a J.D. in law from the University of Georgia, a M.S. in college student personnel from the University of Tennessee, and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Florida. She first joined UF in 1997 as an academic advisor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, a position she held for two years before being named the Assistant Dean of Students. She was the Associate Director of the Honors Program at UF for seven years, where she directed University Scholars, the campus undergraduate research program, and advised student Fulbright grant applicants, while managing several duties including admissions, orientation, and advising efforts within the Honors Program. She served as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs for nearly eight years before her appointment to IFAS. Dr. Mastrodicasa is the co-chair of the Assessment, Research, and Evaluation Knowledge Community with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and frequently presents on issues related to millennial college students, their generation, and use of technology in the workforce. She co-authored the book “Connecting to the Net.Generation: What Higher Education Professionals Need to Know about Today’s Students” (NASPA 2007).

Aubrey Holt currently serves as the Director of Campus Life at Arkansas Tech University. In this role, she oversees leadership development and service initiatives, the co-curricular experience program (On Track), and Registered Student Organizations, including the Homecoming, and Spirit Squads. Holt obtained her M.A.E. in Student Affairs in Higher Education at Western Kentucky University in May 2011. Prior to her graduate work, Holt traveled to over 50 college campuses as an Educational Leadership Consultant for Delta Zeta Sorority to facilitate officer and membership development. She obtained her bachelor degree in Broadcast Journalism from Arkansas Tech University in 2007.

Guest Presenters: Adam Ryen Daniels currently serves as a Student Organization Advisor at the University of California Riverside, after graduating from Azusa Pacific University in 2008 with a Master’s degree in Student Affairs. He has been spearheading efforts to educate and inform student organizations on what CollegiateLink can offer by creating a video tutorial series to reach Riverside’s massive commuter population. Adam also coordinates various social media outlets for the university and will be speaking about how to utilize these venues to promote and educate both the involved and uninvolved students on CollegiateLink.

Formative assessment can help monitor the learning experience and ensure that administrators are addressing knowledge gaps during the learning experience, rather than after. Quinnipiac University embraced the idea of moving beyond summative methods by incorporating formative assessment techniques throughout their student programming. This webinar highlights how one campus used formative assessment and the Student Response System to advance their understanding of their students’ co-curricular experience. Guest Presenter: Erin Twomey, Associate Director for Campus Life & New Student Orientation at Quinnipiac University. Erin Twomey has been the Associate Director of Campus Life at Quinnipiac for the past 5 years. In this role, she has served on the Division of Student Affairs Assessment Team since its formation in 2010. The Assessment Team is responsible for educating the division on current assessment practices and trends; assisting with the creation of divisional, departmental and office assessment tools; and developing the overall strategic plan for the division as it relates to assessment and learning. Erin coordinates the assessment efforts of Campus Life Office and is the primary administrator for the university's CollegiateLink site, Do You QU.
